The patroness Marija Mārite Ķiploks (née Wildau) (1922–2008) was born on 24 July 1922 in Pļaviņas (German: Stockmannshof), Latvia.

During 1942–1944 she studied at the National Assistance Nursing School in Riga. In October 1944, she sailed to Rostock, Germany as a refugee.

In 1957, Bonn, Marija Mārite married a Latvian Jēkabs Ķiploks. She graduated the stomatology studies programme at the University of Bonn in 1958; from 1965 to 1990 worked as a dentist in her private practice in Cologne, Germany. From January 2005 until her demise on 19 January 2008, M. M. Ķiploks lived in Neu-Ulm.

The lifelong motto of M. M. Ķiploks, a precise portrayal of her inner stance, was: "I have done nothing to anyone, I need not apologize to anyone" (in the original language: "Ich habe niemandem etwas getan, Ich muss mich bei niemandem entschuldigen").

The executor of M. M. Ķiploks’ will, Hartmut Häußler, who was also her tax consultant, knew her for 15 years. H. Häußler described M. M. Ķiploks as a "very kind, intelligent, proud and neat woman" and remarked that he was happy to have been by her side during her last days.

Support

In December 2008, the University of Latvia received EUR 1 000 000 following a probate hearing before the regional court of Ulm (Germany) and the approved testament of M. M. Ķiploks.

In her will, M. M. Ķiploks stated that "The University of Latvia in Riga receives a sum of money provided that this money is exclusively designated to the Faculty (programme) of Dentistry, which may use these funds at its sole discretion, and I would consider the use for research, equipment and scholarships to be appropriate".

We greatly appreciate the generous support to education and development!
