Patron Dr.phys. Laimonis A. Laimiņš (1949) was born in post-war Germany. Over time, moving with his family to the United States, he began his studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. L. Laimiņš is grateful to the patronage of his scholarship for supporting him in his undergraduate years, when the studies had just begun and financial situation at the time would not otherwise have permitted to continue acquiring knowledge.

Laimonis A. Laimiņš continued his studies at Rutgers University with a master's degree in physics. He subsequently studied at the University of Chicago, earning his PhD in biophysics in 1981, and began his career there.

Scientist L. Laimiņš has worked at the National Institute of Health and continues to cooperate with the institute evaluating the incoming research applications. He has been working at Northwestern University since 1994. Since 2006, Dr.phys. L. Laimiņš is the head of the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Northwestern University School of Medicine and also conducts studies of HPV in his laboratory.

Kristīna Sīmanis-Laimiņš (1949) holds a bachelor of arts degree from California College of the Arts and a master's degree in school management from the College of New Jersey. She has worked as an art teacher in California, Latvia and currently in Chicago. K. Sīmanis-Laimiņš has specialised in ceramics and textile art. She spends her leisure time writing for “Chicago News” and running a non-profit organization “Latvian Foundation”.

In 2014, Kristīna and Laimonis Laimiņš established Laimiņi Family Scholarship in biology to honour their parents.

In acad. year 2014/2015 and 2015/2016, the scholarship was awarded to Agija Lāce (EUR 2 156 per academic year);

In acad. year 2016/2017, the scholarship recipient was Zane Ozoliņa.

In acad. year 2017/2018, the scholarship recipient was Ilze Izabella Dindune.

In acad. year 2018/2019, the scholarship recipient was Ņikita Zrelovs.

In 2019, Laimiņš family donated EUR 2 208.80 to the University of Latvia.
