Patron Juris Riekstiņš (27.10.2019–30.04.2019) was born in Riga and went into exile along with his family, initially to Germany, until in 1950 came to the USA and settled in Chicago.
He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1965, studying electrical engineering. He worked for Hughes Aircraft Company throughout his life until retirement. In 1972, he married Kate and settled in Southern California.
The initiative to support the University of Latvia came from the suggestion of a Latvian acquaintance working for the Hughes Aircraft Company, who himself donates to the development of the UL.
Support
The patron supported the University of Latvia in 2019 by donating USD 10 000 to the project "Introducing an Innovative Ultrasound Scanning Method in Patient Care at the University of Latvia Medical Study and Patient Care in Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital".
