With benefaction of the patron Mikrotīkls, in 2019 for the first time scholarships were awarded to future specialists in bioinformatics – master's degree students in biology and computing, who specialize in bioinformatics and molecular biology. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary branch of science dedicated to analysis of certain biological data, as well as the development of algorithms, programmes and databases for the acquisition, storage and analysis of this data. Currently, the specialists of bioinformatics are in high demand in the labour market.
Scholarships are intended for the University of Latvia (UL) Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Computing master’s students of the first and second years who specialize in bioinformatics or molecular biology. A priority will be given to those students whose research pertains to the sphere of oncology.
Number of scholarships: at least 4.
Scholarship amount: EUR 6 000 per academic year.

Within a single academic year, the applicant may receive only one scholarship financed by the patrons of the University of Latvia Foundation.
